We publish guides about 401(k) plans and retirement saving for people deciding what to do with their own money. If you can explain the mechanics accurately and show your arithmetic, we would like to read your pitch.

What we are looking for
401k mechanics we have not covered
Anything about how 401(k) plans actually work that is missing from the guides — plan features, rollover mechanics, vesting edge cases, plan-specific rules.
Comparisons against other accounts
401(k)s against instruments we have not written up yet. The comparison has to be numerical, not a list of adjectives.
Rules, limits and strategy
How savers should think about contribution rates, Roth vs traditional and withdrawal timing, with the arithmetic shown rather than asserted.
Retirement accounts outside the US
Workplace and personal retirement schemes in other countries and their tax treatment. This is a genuine gap on the site.
Every guide has to earn its place next to a working calculator. If a claim in your piece can be checked against the growth calculator or the match calculator, we will check it — and the published figure will be whatever the formula returns, not whatever the draft said. Our methodology page documents exactly how that verification works.
Editorial standards
What we ask of a submission
Original and unpublished. We run a copy check before anything goes live, and syndicated pieces are declined.
Every number must be reproducible. If you state a figure, state the inputs and the formula that produced it — we re-derive each one before publishing.
Cite primary sources. The IRS, the Department of Labor, and the text of the Internal Revenue Code and SECURE 2.0. Not another blog's summary of them.
No affiliate links, no product placements, no sponsored rankings. This is a calculation site and that has to stay true.
1,200–2,500 words, written for someone deciding what to do with their own money — not for a keyword target.
You keep the byline, with a link to one profile of your choice. Nothing is published under a house pseudonym.
How to pitch
Send it here
- 1
Email a working title and a three-to-five bullet outline. Not a full draft — we would rather agree the angle before you spend the hours.
- 2
Include the primary sources you intend to cite, and one link to something you have written before.
- 3
If we commission it, you get a deadline and a style note. Drafts are edited for accuracy first and house voice second.
- 4
You approve the final edit before it publishes, and the byline links wherever you choose.
For anything that is not a contribution — a calculation that looks wrong, a translation that reads badly, a topic gap — the contact page is the faster route. Corrections to a published figure are prioritised over everything else.
Questions
Before you pitch
Not currently. What we offer is a byline, a link to a profile of your choice, and an editor who will actually check your arithmetic before it goes out. If your goal is a paid placement, this is not that.
Formulas and content last reviewed . IRS limits change each year — confirm current figures at IRS.gov and with your plan administrator.
Know the subject? Try the tools first
The best pitches come from people who have used the calculators and found the gap themselves. Run a few scenarios, then tell us what is missing.
